If you have naturally long hair, kudos to you, because you’re for sure the subject of some serious hair envy. On the flip side, you know firsthand that it isn’t always as glamorous as it appears to be. From constant tangles to being terrified of getting even the tiniest trim, having long hair is basically a full-time job, that sometimes you just wish you could take a day off from. For all of our fellow ladies who rock the long locks, we know the struggle can be real, so below, we’re taking a moment to recognize the top twelve problems that only you go through.
long hair

1. Being constantly asked if “that’s your real hair.” Yes, yes it is.

2. Followed up by “how did you get it so long?” I don’t get haircuts. Ever. That’s how.

3. The anxiety that comes along on the rare occasion that you actually do get a haircut. It’s terrifying, okay?

4. When you trusted the hairdresser to take as little off as possible, and instead she took off a whole inch, and now you feel like you have a bob, even though your hair’s still down to your belly button. #Normal.

5. Having to clear your schedule on the days you actually want to style your hair, because styling those strands is seriously time consuming.

6. The never-ending amount of split ends.

7. Having to have a scrunchie (or four) around your wrist at all times.

8. Air-drying your hair just isn’t an option.

9. And, blow-drying it takes forever too.

10. Getting it caught or stuck any and everywhere. In the drain. In your lip gloss. In your jacket zipper. Even in the car door, yay!

11. How having a ponytail is like being armed with a weapon. One quick turn and it’s undoubtedly going to smack anyone who’s nearby right in the face. Sorry.

12. The love-hate relationship you have with it. Long hair, you’re a pain to maintain, but it just wouldn't be the same without you.

We all want to keep that summer glow, but once winter hits, it’s in with the cold and out with the glow! Bronzer is great, but it’s also incredibly over-used. Bronzer’s role is to mimic the look of a mid-summer’s sun-kissed complexion, something that will look kind of ridiculous in the snow against pale winter skin. Luckily, there are plenty of tricks to incorporate into your cold-weather beauty routine that will help brighten your skin without the use of bronzer. There are lots of other awesome options out there—here are a few to try today.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize:

Staying hydrated is super important. “Many don’t know this, but moisturizing keeps your tan sealed in much longer than if you don’t!” says Rosa Fasolo, owner and makeup artist at RF BEAUTY ARTISTRY. Once that tan is long gone, keeping up with a simple regimen is key. Exfoliating once a week to keep your skin bright, clear, and to leave dead skin behind is important. Moisturizing is even more important in order to keep that fresh face look. Using a tinted moisturizer is great as well to give you just the right amount of glow, says Fasolo.

Concealer:

Dab concealer all the way from the inner corner of the eye, downward on the trough line under the eyes. Then, blend the concealer with small dabs, all the way down into the cheek area. This technique will give better coverage than just applying concealer only directly under the eyes, says Marian Rothschild, AICI FLC, certified personal image consultant and author of Look Good Now and Always.

Foundation:

Stay away from crushed mineral foundations—they make skin look dead and dry. Instead, opt for a silicone-based foundation like Makeup Forever HD or Face Atelier Ultra Foundation. Both of these will make the skin glow and look alive, says makeup artist Corinna Cooke. Make sure you choose a shade that matches your winter color, not the shade you may use in the summer. A foundation that is too dark will make your skin look muddy
Highlight:

Using a sheer highlighter will help light catch your skin in the winter months, literally brightening up your face. Adding a golden champagne highlighter from the temples to the tops of your cheekbones will give you a natural-looking glow for fair and medium skin, says Grace Mahoney, owner of Blushing Brides. For darker skin, use a pearlescent bronze shade for the same effect.
Blush:

Swap out those bronze, gold, or orange tones from summer for rosy pink blushes. Apply blush to the apple of your cheeks to get a bit of sun-kissed color, says Fasolo.
Say No to Bronzer:

For those who think “bronzing” is the simple way to brighten, the look is often unnatural against winter skin and will actually detract from your glow if you don’t exfoliate, says Lyn Tackett of Genesis Studio Spa. Bronzing powder will collect on excess skin cells and make your skin look even drier.

Eye:

Keep eyeshadow sheer and choose a shade opposite your eye color on the color wheel. This will brighten the eye and make your color spark. Pale eyes look great with pink and peachy tones, while every color looks great with a soft berry tone, explains Cooke. Add a little shimmer just on the eyelid itself, not all over the eye. Curl the lashes to wake the eye up and use several coats of a luscious, glossy mascara.

Lips:
Use a bold, bright color on your lips, like a punchy fuchsia. Fuchsia is bright and fun and lights the face up. It also makes the teeth look whiter and will make pale eyes totally spark, bright, and alive, says Cooke.

6 Simple Ways to Make Big Changes to Your Look.

With the beginning of 2015, it’s all about “new year, new me,” right? While making a pretty lengthy list of resolutions was the easy part, deciding how exactly to carry out all the changes isn’t always so simple. Reorganizing your life from top to bottom may take a bit of work, but when it comes to revamping your look, we’ve got you covered in just a few simple steps.

1. Part your hair on the opposite side. Chances are where you’ve been parting your hair is a permanent fixture in your beauty routine. When you have an itch to do something different you swap out the flat iron for the curling wand. But, as you’re messing with your waves, have you ever thought about messing with your part? Probably not – but, it’s something we definitely recommend trying as this change-up is one of the easiest ways to alter your appearance, and it’s actually quite in to try deep side parts and middle parts this spring. So, give it a go!

2. Experiment with color. When it comes to lipstick, eyeshadow, and even blush, we all have our go-to colors. Most of us are guilty of finding the shades that work for us and sticking to them because they’re foolproof, and we’d rather be safe than sorry. However, you never know until you try, so don’t be afraid to explore options outside of your comfort zone, and even tones that look too bright in the jar. Who knows, you may even end up finding something that suits you even better than before, or one that can be multi-purpose.

3. Shape your brows. We learned a lot about our brow game in 2014, and we’re not about to let go of those valuable lessons anytime soon. If you have yet to jump aboard the bold brow bandwagon, there’s no better time than the present to do so. Set up a consultation with a professional (either a waxer or threader) and work together to figure out how they can best groom your brows to compliment your look. Trust us, eyebrows frame your face, so they actually are crucial to your routine.

4. Ditch the black liner. Popping some jet black eyeliner into your waterline is something every beauty girl has done probably way too many times to even count. And for those of us who wear it everyday, we almost don’t look quite ourselves without it. However, if you’re feeling like your eyes need some opening up, we recommend giving your trusty black liner a rest. Instead, try a nude liner, as it will instantly expand your eyes, giving you a fresh look. Plus, it’s not as harsh as a white eyeliner which also gives the same brightening effect.

5. Try new formulas. In the magical world of makeup, the options are endless. Between gels, liquids, creams, and powders, there are so many formulas to choose from and we’re true believers in trying them all. Stop by your local beauty counter for a trial application, or swing by Sephora for some samples, this way you can explore all your options, without breaking the bank.

6. Reinvent your signature scent. You’ve been rocking the same perfume for so many years it has officially become “your scent.” If any of your friends or family were to get a whiff of it elsewhere, they’d immediately think of you. While there’s nothing wrong with having one true love, you’re not actually married to your perfume, so we assure you it’s okay to check some others out. Believe it or not, the switch from fruity to floral can actually make for a redefining moment, and open your eyes to entirely new brands.
