The whole crop-top wearing thing isn’t going anywhere — and not just
in the “now trending” sense. It’s really here to stay, even as the more appropriate climate for wearing a crop top leaves us. And given that we usually don’t have redcarpet events to use as a midriff-baring excuse (or ever), it’s not quite feasible to think that we should be following Miley Cyrus’ lead, either

Dress it up. If you’re rocking a corset-style or sleeveless crop top, wear it over a long-sleeved dress. Bonus points if the dress happens to feature a turtleneck. Now you’ve gone from skin-baring to totally covered up. Go you. If you have a cropped t-shirt, layer it under a overall romper or skinny strap dress — and don’t forget to add tights for an extra dose of clothing warmth.

Seasonal switch. Invest in knitwear and longer-sleeved versions. Some suggestions? Check Topshop and Nasty Gal for affordable option
.
Meet in the middle. Wear your crop top with high-waisted jeans. Or if you’d prefer a girlish alternative, try a high-waisted fluted skirt. Then, play with proportions even more by way of a longer heavy-knit cardigan and flat Chelsea boots.

As is, please. Still want that flash of skin? Fine, wear your crop top in all its glory. As a compromise of sorts, put on a coat and colorful beanie to offset the skin-revealing silhouette. No one likes a cute shivering girl.

Go for conservative. If you like the idea of a crop top, but you’re nowhere near wanting to go all Rihanna on your outfit, look for curved hems, relatively “longer” iterations with oversized sleeves, or cheat a little bit, and wear a cropped jacket.

Cher Horowitz-approved. I try never to go a day without at least one Clueless reference, so here it is. For those of you who don’t mind the heavy ’90s trend in the fashion world right now, why not take on the shrunken vest look? Cher Horowitz may have gone with matchy-matchy plaids, but the point here is to layer with a longer tee underneath for a funkier schoolgirl effect.

Let’s face it: sometimes you wake up and your hair is perfect – it has never been better. But, there are some times when your hair is just not everything it could be, which can mean long styling sessions or total surrender without hope of recovery. We’ve all been there, but there is a better way.
We’ve rounded up a huge list of tips to help you manage your mane, which should lead to a string of better hair days. It doesn’t matter what kind of hair you have, here are some tips to get the hair you want.

101. When in doubt, braided hairstyles can be your friend on days where you might not want to fool with it. A quick waterfall or French braid across the front of your hair can take your bangs out of your eyes and into a chic style.

100. Trying to get your hair to grow? Herbal Essences celebrity stylist Charles Baker Strahan recommends Biotin to stimulate thicker, stronger hair and nails.

99. Another suggestion for getting your hair to grow? Manage your diet. Senior Stylist at Ted Gibson Salon Devin Toth recommend A and B vitamins (B6, B9, B12, and B complex/Folic Acid) to make sure your cells are working properly for a shiny, healthy mane.

98. If hair loss is your problem, Toth recommends increasing your intake of vitamins C, E and zinc to help your body naturally repair itself, which can stop the hair loss.

97. If your diet isn’t great, it can really affect the health and appearance of your hair since excess salt, sugar, caffeine and carbonated beverages sap magnesium from your diet. Toth suggests a handful of nuts before bed, since magnesium is a natural muscle relaxant and it might help you get some sleep. Which rocks because hair grows fastest at night.

96. Want your hair to be naturally shiny? Fish oil brings the glow from within, giving you strong strand
that are naturally glossy and healthy.

95. The health and strength of your hair also depends on the types of tools you use. A natural boar bristle brush helps spread sebum down the hair shaft, which results in a softer, smoother finish.

94. High levels of chlorine may be to blame for rough texture , dryness and frizz/lack of manageability. Add a shower head with a filter to remove chlorine for a softer, more manageable style.

93. The health of your scalp is incredibly important, since a clogged scalp from product buildup can slow the growth and distribution of nourishment to the rest of your strands. Try a scalp treatment or shampoo and conditioner that focuses on clarifying the scalp for softer, healthier hair.

92. If your hair is oily, a homemade treatment can help remove excess sebum for a more manageable texture. Combine 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, 1/2 of a crushed avocado, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and and 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise, then apply to hair and leave on for 20 minutes. Massage through your scalp for five minutes, then rinse with warm water and shampoo with a deep cleansing shampoo for healthy, oil-free strands.

91. Also, a simple vinegar rinse can be made with one tbsp of vinegar mixed with 2-3 cups of warm water. Pour the mixture over the scalp, then add shampoo and massage in to remove product buildup. Rinse a few times, then condition for shiny, amazing hair.

90. Women with curly hair should look for a cleansing conditioner to remove dirt and cleanse curls while nourishing your hair.

89. Speaking of curls, those with curly/natural hair should steer clear of products that contain silicones and/or sulfates, since they can dry out your hair and disrupt the curl pattern (hello, frizz.) Cleansers with natural oils, plant extracts and butters are all effective at maintaining the health of your hair.

88. Hydration is the key to avoiding frizz in the first place, so girls with curly hair should apply a protein-based treatment at least 2-3 times a month to maintain the moisture balance of your curls.

87. Leave-in conditioners are essential to maintaining the structure of curls and natural strands, particularly in warmer weather. Look for a cream-based formula for thicker/coarse hair types, or a leave-in spray for finer textures.

86. Also, hair masques packed with natural oils can help coat the strands of normal to dry hair to help prevent the dreaded frizz from striking when the humidity rises. Once a week is essential, especially if you heat style your hair.

85. If you want sleek, smooth strands, you can also get a keratin treatment to make your strands sleek and strong. No need for the salon price tag, either: there are home kits that can get similar results for a fraction of the cost.

84. UV filters are essential for protecting your hair from sun damage. Look for products that contain these shields to neutralize free radicals and the sun’s harmful rays from damaging the color and texture of your hair.

83. Usually, when hair starts to frizz, we try to combat the texture by adding more heat, which makes matter worse in the long run. Try a frizz-free serum with added heat protection to stop the madness before it starts while protecting your fragile mane.

82. A thickening spray added to your regular blowout routine can help prolong the style and combat the onset of frizz. Just add it to the roots, then blow your hair out using a round brush for a blowout with staying power.

81. Girls with curls should follow this general rule for styling by the owners of Miss Jessie’s Curly Hair Salon: the thicker the curl, the thicker the consistency of the styling product.

80. Also, long, layered styles work best for curly manes since they allow the weight of the hair to help control the curl. Any bangs should be face framing.

79. If you’re looking for a new haircut that will flatter your face, the “lob” (long, layered bob) is all the rage and shows no signs of slowing down. In addition to looking amazing on everyone, it has tons of styling options and works with pretty much all hair textures. It’s also low maintenance.

78. Afraid of getting a bad haircut? Be sure to bring two photos with you of the style you want to your styling appointment, and have a talk about texture and maintenance before the scissors come out. You’ll be happier in the long run.

77. Ready to take it all off? We’re still in favor of the pixie cut, which came back to life when Emma Watson famously let celebrity hairstylist Rodney Cutler shear off her Harry Potter-approved length. Have a talk about texture with your stylist in advance, but take the plunge if you’re feeling inspired. We love it!

76. To cut bangs or not to cut bangs? This is the never-ending question with pretty much all of us, but bangs are the easiest way to change your look without drastically altering your style (or your hair color). Blunt bangs are our favorites since they’re versatile and uber-chic.

75. By the way, you do not – we repeat, DO NOT – have to book an appointment for a bang trim. You can trim your own bangs…you know, for free.

74. Girls with haircuts (especially those who are growing out cuts and/or bangs) know that you will disagree with your hair some mornings. Keep a cute barrette on hand to sweep hair away from your face in style.

74. If you’re rocking a short hairstyle, you need to have an arsenal of styling products so you can work your ‘do depending on your mood.  Styling paste and pomades are a must.

73. If you have any hair length, we implore you to have dry shampoo on hand. Not only is it the fastest way to prolong any hairstyle, it’s a massive timesaver when you have to do your ‘do and dash.

72. If flat hair is your problem, there are great volumizing sprays and mousses out there to help you turn up the volume on your style. We’re also partial to the upside-down blowdry technique, followed by some intense spraying for higher hair.

71. Thinner hair can also be made thicker with shampoos, conditioners and styling products to help make the hair strand a bit wider in appearance.

70.  Oh, and big, textured hair was all over the runways this past season, so we’re all about the big hair for spring/summer 2013. Thickening hairspray helps with the volume and texture we’re craving.

69. We love red-carpet worthy waves. We also love that you can get them at home with a brief, easy tutorial.

68. Adding mousse to the midlengths of your hair is one of the keys to getting those boho glam waves that Kate Hudson is always rocking (and which we envy regularly), according to her hair guru, celebrity hairstylist David Babaii.

67. You can get beachy waves all year, by the way. There are amazing beach sprays that can help you get that perfectly-tousled, wavy texture even if you’re landlocked.

66. There are some mornings where bedhead just naturally happens. For all other occasions, apply lightweight mousse to towel-dried hair the night before, then twist hair into a bun. Release in the morning and lightly spray for I-woke-up-like-this texture.

65. There are also great texturizers that can give you bedhead results, no pillow required. Just apply, work through and style.

64. If you’re considering hair extensions for added length, go in for a consultation to ensure you get the style that’s right for your hair and lifestyle, says Senior Stylist at Ted Gibson Salon and Weave Specialist Sade.

63. Care for hair extensions just like your regular hair, but if your sewn-in extensions seem to take forever to dry, Sade recommends only conditioning your hair at the roots to cut down on drying time.

62. Hair color is an amazing way to change and enhance your looks. You can get amazing results (even platinum blonde and ombre) with home hair color kits you can pick up at your local drugstore.

61. A color-treated shampoo and conditioner is essential to maintaining your hair color. Remember: hair color is an investment. Protect it at all costs.

60. Also, avoid sulfates when caring for your hair color, as they can cause the hair color to break down and rinse right out.

59. When dying your hair at home, remember to try to stick to shades that are 2-3 shades lighter or darker than your own hair color. Anything more drastic can lead to less-than-desired results.

58. Ombre hair means your ends can be super fragile. Be sure to deep condition and repair them (along with the rest of your hair) regularly to maintain their strength, says celebrity hairstylist George Papanikolas.

57. Make sure your hair texture and styling history will support ombre bleaching, especially if you have darker hair, which will result in an orange tint at the ends that will simply break off.

56. You can also try the multicolored hair color trend, no matter what your hair color and/or length may be. Stay away from tones that mimic the undertones of your face, says Bumble & Bumble colorist Zoe Wiepert.

55. Want to try the multicolored hair trend for a night? Temporary hair chalk and spray can help you dabble in a color (or twelve) here and there, then wash it out in the morning and start again.

54. When using hair chalk to alter your hair color, be sure to shake fingers through your hair as some of the chalk will fall away. Also, avoid wearing white tops for obvious reasons.

53. We believe that hair color should help nourish your hair whenever possible, so look for at-home kits and in-salon processes that infuse the hair with much-needed oils to protect structure and maintain its much-needed moisture balance. L’Oreal Professionel INOA is fantastic for in-salon results, while Garnier Olia can help replicate these results at home.

52. Platinum blonde is one of the hardest hair colors to achieve, and one of the harshest processes. Be sure to add moisture regularly with deep conditioning masques that replace lost moisture and support the health of your strands.

51. Also, don’t wash your platinum blonde hair for 24-48 hours after processing, to preserve the color and to keep hair from drying out.
50. Trying to preserve your gorgeous hair color in the sun? Nothing works like covering your hair to protect it. Sun hats and scarves are your friends.

49. Root touch-up products can help conceal grown-out hair color in between salon visit. They’re also great at getting two-tone hair color results, if you’re feeling a little adventurous advises celebrity hair colorist and Clairol Color Director Marie Robinson.

48. Restoring masks are amazing for repairing the damage we do to our hair each week. Get a two-fer and slather yours on at the gym after a workout, then sit in the steamroom for 20 minutes for an instant salon-quality steam treatment.

47. You can also apply your favorite hair mask at the beginning of your favorite 30-minute tv program, then rinse when the credits start to roll. That’s the maximum amount of time you should leave it on. Any longer and it actually removes moisture from the hair and starts to break down protein, which is the exact opposite of what you want.

46. Coconut oil is an astounding hair conditioner. Solid versions sold at grocery stores make for a great repair treatment, with heat added or alone.

45. Olive oil is also a time-tested treatment to help soften and condition both hair and skin. You can slather on gently-warmed olive oil (not hot, though,) then throw on a shower cap and leave for up to 30 minutes for a great hot oil treatment.

44. Concerned about animal products in your hair regime? Not to worry: there are plenty of vegan-friendly options to help with your cleansing, conditioning and styling needs.

43. If you chemically straighten your hair, look for products with keratin that will help strengthen your hair and repair any damage.

42. Also, if you’re a Brazilian blowout addict, try converting to a formaldehyde-free process to get the results without doing as much harm – or endanger health.

41. There are also plenty of styling tools, from straightening combs to root straighteners, that can help you get straighter locks without making the permanent commitment.

40. Straightening your hair up toward the ceiling can add volume to your straighter ‘do, advises the genius stylists at Wonderland Beauty Parlour.

39. Washing your hair too much can literally take the essential oils right out of your hair if it’s thick, coarse or naturally curly. Opt to shampoo 1-2 times a week if you have this hair type. Normal to oily strands? Suds away.

38. Ionic hair dryers are some of the best options for protecting your hair from damage by using negative ions to eliminate water molecules instead of cycled heat. They’re available at pretty much every price point, so we’d really suggest you get one if you blow your hair dry.

37. Moisture is the key to combatting both frizz and lifeless hair. Be sure to a moisturizing treatment and styling products to your routine if you have dry hair.

36. Hair repairs itself at night while you’re sleeping, so why not try an overnight repair serum to help get the most bang for your…well, out of your sleep?

35. The ponytail doesn’t have to be boring. There are plenty of rocker-inspired ways to make this style un-boring, like side angles and varied parts.

34. You can also roll the sides of your hair before you pull it back for a romantic take on the ponytail style.

33. An updo is the best way to instantly add poise to any look. There are plenty of red carpet options that work for any day or evening occasion.

32. Oh, and yes, lovely girls with curls, the updo is also for you. Try it for a new alternative style if you haven’t already!

31. Styling cream is a must for updos with staying power. You might also consider a good flexible hold hairspray to secure the style.

30. The topknot is also not going anywhere anytime soon. Does your hair need a little help in the volume department. Snip the end off an old, clean sock and roll it for an instant donut you can place over the base of your ponytail, then roll and pin your hair over it for instant style.

29. Sleek styles get a boost from glossing creams and pomades that give hair smoothness and incredible shine, which is key to the style.

28. A deep side part adds interest to any ponytail or off-the-face style. Try one to amp up the attitude on your next basic style.

27. If you’re in a pinch and you need to control your mane, borrow pomade from your boyfriend. Their formulas have great staying power and serious hold.

26. A good shine serum can help add gloss and a healthy appearance to any style. They can also prevent frizz by closing in any gaps in the hair cuticle. In short, they’re amazing and we love them.

25. Did you dash out of the house without your headband and now your hair is all sorts of crazy? Create your own by braiding a crown across the front of middle of your head, then secure behind your ear with a bobby pin or inside a ponytail or updo with an elastic. Done!

24. Even though Gossip Girl is gone, the power of the headband (long live Blair Waldorf) remains strong and a quick solution to get your hair out of your face at a moment’s notice while adding polish to any look.

23. Your jewelry can help add a lot of lift to your hairstyle. The rise of the ear cuff is picking up speed, and it adds incredible allure to any updo.

22. We love a good headpiece for music festival-inspired style, whether your rocking out on the grass or not.

21. We also can’t fight the allure and siren song of a great floral crown, particularly when there’s a band to be heard.

20. When in doubt, a good fedora not only blocks the sun, but it helps tame your mane.

19. Dryer sheets can help prevent static electricity and flyaways.
18. Reactivating mist can help revive fallen curls if they’re looking a bit droopy.

17. Volumizing dry shampoo can lift the roots of any fallen style and can help transform your hair from day to night in a flash.

16. If you heat style your hair, you MUST protect your hair from the damage of heat styling tools. A heat protectant spray is amazing for this purpose. Those with dry hair should also avoid any styling products containing alcohol, which can dry out hair and make it more fragile and prone to damage.

15. Remove as much moisture as you can from your hair to cut down on drying time. Also, wring and squeeze water from your hair with a towel, don’t “rough it up” by rubbing vigorously, which can fray the cuticle of already-damaged hair, causing frizz and split ends.

14. Also, we clearly love a ball cap with attitude for off-duty hair styling days.

13. If you want volume and curl without the heat of a hair dryer (and who does in the summer?), we’d recommend going super old school with a roller set. Self-adhesive rollers can grab hair on their own and keep it lifted while it dries into the perfect shape.

12. When using a curling iron, be sure to keep the setting on medium and only hold the hair for a few seconds, or you could run the risk of, you know, burning it off.

11. We love the Gatsby-inspired jeweled headbands that are back in style. Add one for a little Daisy-inspired glamour for your look.

10. Can you make your own hair accessories? Absolutely! Old earrings can be added to pins, bracelets can become hair ties. You have plenty of options if you’re feeling crafty.

9. Many hair ties are cool enough to double as jewelry for a versatile fashion look that can inspire a new style in an instant.

8. If you have a special occasion (like a wedding) and you need to add style to your hair, fresh flowers are not only a cheap way to add instant glamour, they can be a lifesaver since they’re most likely on hand.

7. If you’re in a pinch and you need to tame your hair, body lotion rubbed onto your hands can help tame flyaways and create a sleek updo or ponytail.

6. If you’re creating an updo or working with bobby pins and/or hair elastics, pick pins and elastics that are as close to your own hair color as possible so they disappear into the style.

5. For versatility and ease, you can’t be a good scarf for hair styling possibilities. Tie one up at the crown of your head or below the nape of your neck for a little retr0-inspired glamour.

4. We also live for the timeless glamour of a great turban, which can help protect your hair from the sun while it provides an instant style upgrade to any look.

3. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is give yourself a makeover. A new cut, new color or a slice of new bangs may be just what you need. Just be sure you’re in a good mood when you do it. Most “breakovers” are regretted almost instantly.

2. Have trouble remembering to book your hair appointments? Book up to three months up to a year in advance while you’re at the salon to make sure that you’re both committed to the relationship.

1. Honestly, the best thing you can ever do is embrace your natural texture and learn to love what you’re working with!

It’s always a good idea to invest in a good pair of nude pumps. It’s a timeless wardrobe staple just like the little black dress. When you have no idea what shoes to wear for the day, you can always turn to your nude pumps. They are versatile and they make your #legs long long and slim. What more can a #girl want.

Nude shoes are pretty timeless. The nude pump is a fashion favourite and a must in any wardrobe. However, there are plenty of other kinds of nude or neutral coloured shoes you could work into your wardrobe. What about a sleek sandal or an elegant brogue shoe for everyday wear? The following are just some new season nude shoes that are worth checking out.

Christian Louboutin Nude Shoes Collection
It’s obvious that wearing a pair of heels will easily add height to a shorter frame. However, the color of the heels can make a difference. Skin-colored heels often blend in with your natural coloring and can make legs appear to be longer. You can also do a great job of combining shorter dresses with nude heels to add length to their legs

For the amount that popular culture has dissected and analyzed New York City girls’ style, I was surprised to really see it in action for myself during my first few months of living here. Caricatures offered in movies like Sweet Home Alabama and The Devil Wears Prada often portray this city as one teeming with all-black, slightly outrageous outfits—and don’t get me wrong, that element is certainly present in closets across the city. But, as I quickly learned, there’s much more to it than that.

The backbone of New York City style is one that differs widely based on who you are, what you do—and perhaps most pertinently, where you live. It’s often guaranteed that the more prim uptown girl has a completely different wardrobe than the edgier downtown one, so we’re here to spell out the contrast—as well as to show you how to get each look with a few key styling tricks.

Truth be told, as much as we like to look good, sometimes we just don’t have that extra time to put the effort into doing so. As girls on the go, we’re all for any quick fixes that will speed up our getting ready process. In the summer, we ditched the blowdryers altogether and embraced wet hairstyles – but, now as we’re entering colder months, that would be a surefire recipe for sniffles and sore throats. It’s no secret that blowdrying your hair can take a long time, however there are a few secrets that can help you get it done quicker. So, next time you find yourself racing against the clock with wet hair, just remember these 5 ways to dry your hair faster, that we’re filling you in on below.
Towel-dry with a microfiber towel: Seriously, you need to get one.
Microfiber towels are super absorbent so they’ll soak up any water in your hair in no time. Just remember to always squeeze instead of rubbing, as rubbing can break your hair.
Use a blowdrying spray: Yes, they exist and yes, they actually work. Blowdrying sprays, like Kms California’s Free Shape Quick Blow Dry, lock the moisture into your hair which helps reduce blowdrying time, this way you don’t have to damage your hair by turning the heat on full-blast while blowdrying.
And, a ceramic round-barreled brush:
A ceramic round-barreled brush will warm up under the blowdryer and help direct heat. Containing fewer bristles than traditional brushes, ones like Olivia Garden’s Ceramic + Ion Turbo Vent Pro Round Brush allow more airflow, which will help speed up your drying time.
Switch to an ionic dryer: With ionic blowdryers, like the Hot Tools Tourmaline IONIC Professional Dryer, the negatively charged ions help evaporate the water from your hair, while using less heat. They can help hurry up the process by up to 70 percent – plus, they make hair smoother and less fried.
Direct the heat: While you’re blowdrying, point the nozzle of your dryer downwards as you run it from root to end. Doing this will routinely push any water out of your hair quicker, while also eliminating frizz, as you will be working with the direction of the hair rather than against it.

Scalp sunburn and other truths only girls with thin hair will relate to
We know what you thick-haired girls are thinking... I wish my hair was thin! No, sweetie. You don't. Here are merely a few reasons why the struggle is real for thin-haired girls.
1. Thinking of skipping a shampoo? Child, please.
One day without a shower and thin hair goes from so-so to so greasy. And, in all honesty, the greasiness starts creeping in only a few hours post-shower. Boooooo.
2. Say hello to scalp sunburn.
Yes, it's a thing. If you have thick hair, you've likely never experienced the unholy sensation that is your scalp burning. Don't even get us started on the peeling.
3. We've bookmarked the As Seen On TV site
Air Curler, Bumpit, Hot Buns... we've tried every gimmick on the market to give us that thick-haired look. Alas, we haven't enough hair to even hide the bumps and sock buns.
4. Every single hair product in our arsenal says some variation of "volume."
Extra body? Check. Added volume? Check. Voluminous? Check. Bedhead? Check.
5. It takes three hair ties to put hair in a bun, yet it still falls out
Buns are a major challenge with thin hair. So it's especially annoying when, after much manipulation, you finally get a bun you're halfway happy with, only for your thin hair to slip through the hair band after an hour.
6. Speaking of buns, they're comically tiny.
I mean, like, really little. They look like ping pong balls. You know, of hair. And a messy bun? Yeah, right. Thanks for the chuckle.
7. Normal hair loss causes major anxiety.
While we realize everyone loses something like 100 hairs each day, we're 97 percent certain the amount we lose every single time we take a shower is triple that. Or perhaps the loss is merely multiplied because we know we can't afford to lose any of it.
8. Napping is a death sentence for a cute 'do.
Thin hair does not respond well to sleep. If you think you've got a cowlick, you've never seen a thin-haired girl after she rolls out of bed.
9. We have a life mantra: it's "wash the roots, condition the ends."
There is no other way. All other advice is irrelevant.
10. It's more than just a surface level problem
Almost everything can affect hair fullness — stress, nutrition, sleep, hair care products — so we're always on the hunt for simple ways to help improve it from the inside out. Aveda has a new app that's kind of genius — it tracks progress and has several everyday habits to adopt to keep thin hair as full as possible.
11. It looks oh so good after being blown out...
But it leaves your hair feeling like straw. Heat styling is the thin-haired girl's biggest frenemy.
12. See also: Does not hold curl.
Well, it does when you use an entire can of hairspray, which is pretty much how we roll.
13. Tangles are the bane of the thin-haired girl's existence.
Seriously, how can so little hair end up so majorly matted? Going swimming leads to serious contemplation about getting a Demi Moore in G.I. Jane buzz cut.
14. All we want for Christmas is extensions.
When all our friends were asking their parents for cell phones or designer jeans for holidays, we were asking for faux hair. That'll do a number on your psyche.
15. Thick hair envy.
Rapunzel. The entire cast of Pretty Little Liars. Shakira. We love you, but we kinda hate you, too. Don't take it personally — we're just bitter about your enviably thick locks. Shave them and we'll call it even. Just joking! Sort of. OK, not really. OK, not at all.
16. Trendy styles are just a pipe dream.
Oh, you just rocked a big messy braid? If a rat tail and a cornrow met, fell in love and had a baby, that's what my messy braid would look like — the offspring of a rat tail and a cornrow.
17. We're legitimately concerned about female pattern baldness.
For real. We actually check for bald patches after showers. And when we pull our hair up. And always.
18. One word: static.
Static is an entirely different beast when you have thin hair. You know those orbs with electric currents you put your hand on? That's basically what thin hair with static looks like.
19. That one thing people are always saying.
"Wow, you have really thin hair!" Really? Hmm, I hadn't noticed. Thank you for pointing that out.

As the seasons change, fashion influences our wardrobe as well as our hair. What we wear is changing from vibrant colors and light airy materials, to more earthy colors and heavier fibers, reflecting the change in weather. We are adding dimension, richness, and warmth to our hair color as well as the style, to compliment skin tones and the newest fall fashions.
Seasonal hair color trends aren’t just about adding bold colors. “We add warmth and depth to our clients color to better compliment their skin tone and winter fashion,” says Alterna HaircareCreative Team Member Megan Thompson.  “Our fall color trends are inspired by the change in environment as we move from season to season. Our color palette is derived from tones in nature, pumpkin oranges, warm golds, apple reds, and caramel browns,” says Thompson. We change hair color to compliment skin tonalities through the changes in the seasons.  Bringing in vibrancy and warmth to the hair will help richen up skin tones and better compliment the colder weather fashions.
Lowlights
Ombre and highlights are so last season, says Pierre Michel Salon‘s Jim Clinton, who for the past five years has been part of the hair team for The Today Show. Today, he is adding in lowlights to frame the face and bring his clients closer to their natural color. His blonde clients are turning golden. For brunette shades he accentuates the natural color by glazing the hair with rich golden and copper tones.
Go red
Deep reds are coming back in for fall, so go for a deep red all over or a deep red with lighter red tones framing the face, says Nikki Gilmartin, of Pierre Michel Salon. Rose gold is a popular color trend this season, especially for natural redheads, says celebrity hairstylist Julien Farel. This elegant color can look great on all skin tones if done properly.
Add some contrast
For blondes contrast is a definite fall trend! Your tan is fading so your skin tone will no longer match that beach blonde color, says Gilmartin. If you are naturally light blonde, add some lowlights – if you are naturally darker blonde add less highlights then usual and let your darker color peek through. By allowing your hair more contrast you will already be lengthening the time between your upkeep appointments because roots will now blend in easier when they start to come in. A color-safe shampoo is always a definite to keep your color from fading and with blondes a masque is always helpful such as Kerastase Chroma Reflect to keep your hair healthy after color and to make your blonde healthy, shiny and luminous!
Mixing shades of brown will be very popular this fall, like the new color on Marion Cotillard, says Farel. Using a variety of browns that are close in shade has been popular among many celebrities and gives a cozy look to the hair, while reminding us of the changing colors of the fall leaves.
Take ombre for a fun spin
Reverse ombre with pastels is a trend that can be worn by any age and incorporates fashion-forward pastel colors to create a reverse ombre effect, says Farouk Systems Creative Artist Shawnee Heltsley. Top color combos include Bubblegum Pink Reverse Ombre (pastel pink mixed with a pure pink) or Aqua Ombre (pastel mint mixed with true teal and pastel blue). First timer? Do a test run by trying the reverse ombre pastel look on extensions.

Bright lips are a great way to put a little pep in your pout, but when the color starts to fade, it just doesn’t have the same punch. In order to keep your bright lipstick from dulling throughout the day, try these tips for a fade-free look (and day).

Prep your lips
Try putting a little bit of water and brown sugar on your toothbrush, suggests Los Angeles makeup artist, Annie Tevelin of SkinOwl. Exfoliate the lips with the toothbrush and sugar to make sure your lipstick doesn’t have any dry skin to cling to (if there’s shedding skin, you’re lipstick will follow).

Blot a little bit of translucent powder on your lips to act as an adhesive and hold your color for an extended period of time. Don’t use your regular face powder, as the color will dull or change your bright lipstick’s hue, Tevelin says.

You may also want to use lip priming products underneath lip color, such as Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer or Urban Decay Lip Primer Potion, to both brighten and intensify the color being worn and increase the longevity of the color sans fading, running, or creasing, suggests Grace Mahoney, bridal hair and makeup artist and owner of Blushing Brides.

Buy for durability
Look for and use lip products that are made for lasting substantially longer than usual. Glosses and sheer lip products don’t tend to do the trick for longevity and bright lip appearances. Stains, stain/gloss combos, and matte lipsticks are excellent for this, says Mahoney.

Create a lip that lasts
Lindsey Rivera, a freelance makeup artist in Los Angeles, advises applying one coat of lipstick and then blot. “Sometimes, I’ll carefully pull a tissue apart and place it over the lips and then powder over the tissue, this helps to set the first coat. Next, I apply the second coat, and they’re good to go. The best way to ensure your lip color lasts all day is to choose a formula that’s long-lasting.”

Seal the look
Finish off the look with a lipliner that matches your lip color. When using brights, lining your lips in the same color as your lipstick can get messy. Instead, opt for a lighter shade of the bright color chosen. Apply after your lipstick, blot your lips, and reapply for a maximum hold all day long!

For maintaining bright red lips (which are the trickiest to prevent fading and bleeding from), the quirky makeup trick of mixing Jell-O powder with water and applying it with a Q-tip to your lips before putting on your red lipstick or gloss will create a long-lasting stain as a base and keep red lips bright and fade-free all day long, says Mahoney.

10 Things You Should Never Say to Girls with Blonde Eyebrows!

blonde eyebrows

Bold brows are the “it” beauty accessory these days. That’s all fine and good for the Cara Delevingnes of the world, but for ladies with blonde eyebrows, the trend falls more on the aggravating side of the fence. Between having to see models with bold eyebrows around every corner and practically every beauty store being taken over by eyebrow enhancing products, being a lady with blonde brows is tough nowadays.

Because we understand (and personally live through) what it’s like to be a lady with blonde brows in a world that wants nothing but bold, so we’ve put together a list of things that you should never say to a blondie.

1. “You probably never have to get your eyebrows done.”

2. “LOL, you don’t even have eyebrows."

3. “Have you ever tried an eyebrow pencil?”

4. “You have to try this new brow gel I got. It will change your life.”

5. “You should get a brow tinting treatment.”

6. “You’re so lucky you don’t have to even worry about your eyebrows.”

7. “You kind of look like Miley Cyrus that time she bleached her brows.

8. “Have you ever thought about just dyeing your eyebrows? Maybe that’ll help.”

9. “You’re probably one of those people with blonde leg hair, too. You’re so lucky you never have to shave.”

10. “I wish I didn’t have to think about my brows. They’re so dark.”

Fine Hair

Having fine hair can be a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you have less hair to work with, which can make it easier to style when you’re in a rush on certain mornings. On the other hand though, you feel like your hair always looks flat and boring. It just tends to not provide any volume or style that you want it too. The generally slick texture makes it all the easier for it to slip out of styles. Plus, you often see your girlfriends rocking full thick waves and begin to feel envious.

Instead of being jealous of what you don’t have, embrace what you do. With the help of hairstylist Marilee Albin, your fine hair will look so good that those girls with thick hair will be envious of your gorgeous locks. From keeping it healthy, to cutting and styling tips for the best look, here is what all girls with fine hair need to know.

Best Haircuts
The key to a haircut with fine hair? “Nothing over-layered,” Albin explains. However, if you want some style to your cut, instead of layers, use angles to your advantage. You can angle the hair around your jawline so it gets longer towards the front. Or  you can even have one side fall a little lower then the opposite. We love this bold style and it’s perfect for girls with fine hair.
Albin says the key to keeping hair from getting stringy is more consistent haircuts. “Fine hair is more prone to split ends,” Albin explains. So when you are not taking care of the split ends, they begin to creep up the hair strands.

Washing Tips
Like most types of hair, fine hair should not be washed every single day. Albin suggests shampooing every other day.  However, she says you do not necessarily need to use actual shampoo every time you shower, unless you have really oily hair. “Just wet the hair, scrub a little with your fingers and condition the ends.” Be sure that you do not use conditioner on the roots though. This can weigh the hair down making it appear even flatter.

Blow Drying Technique
Blow drying is the perfect time to give your hair a little lift. The key is to achieve volume from the roots since fine hair won’t give any lift throughout the ends. Albin suggests turning your head upside down to give it a little lift. After blowing dry, shake your fingers through for a rough dry and to give it a little texture. Smooth with a brush at the last minute to keep hair controlled.
Also, be sure that your hair is completely dry before finishing. Letting some strands air dry will leave them limp and lifeless, which is the exact opposite of what you want when you have fine hair.
Products

“Less is more,” says Albin when it comes to using product in fine hair. Using too much product is one of the biggest mistakes girls with fine hair make.
Albin says that Living Proof PHD Styling cream is a must. “It will give a little volume, help protect those little strands from heat and helps with hold.” Sea salt spray is another great product those with fine hair should take advantage of thanks to its light application. Albin’s favorite is Davines Sea Salt Spray. Albin explains that you should not spray it directly on the hair, but to spray into your hands first and scrunch in little by little
. This will give fine hair a bit of texture and hold.

Wearing makeup can be a wonderful way to show off color, enhance our features, and express ourselves. On the flip side, going a few days without makeup allows the skin to breathe, balance, and decongest from any build up caused by foundation and other makeup applied daily.

It is a good idea to give your face a break from makeup so that your skin can take a good deep breath! Even high quality makeup contains chemicals, preservatives and fillers, all of which can clog pores if worn in excess, says White Tea Med Spa‘s esthetician, Rivka Veder. “This break doesn’t need to be forever. We advise our clients to try going makeup free on weekend mornings or remove it right after you get home from work at night. We also love the idea of #MakeUpFreeMondays!” says Veder.

Still not sold on why you should take a break from makeup? Below are seven reasons you should consider some time off from cosmetics.

Protect Your skin
Face makeup, especially when it contains SPF, can congest skin and block oxygen from flowing in and out of our pores. The more you use, the worse the case. Plus, depending on your makeup’s ingredients, overuse can lead to acne and  dehydration.

Get More Out of Your Products
“By removing bronzer, blush, and highlighter for a few days, skin can breathe and oxygen doesn’t have to worry about finding its way through all of the layers. Less is sometimes more in the long run!” says Annie Tevelin of Skin Owl. Taking the weekend off from foundation can decongest the pores and minimize pore size, then when you go back to makeup, it’ll look even better on fresh skin.

Let Your Eyes Breathe
Too much mascara can lead to thinner looking lashes. Going a few days without mascara can actually strengthen your lashes due to the lack of product buildup and the daily putting on and removing of mascara, says Tevelin.

Maintain Your Skin Tone
Lena Sgambati, founder of Australian online skincare brand Just Good Skincare: without the bullsh*t, says taking just two  days a week off from wearing makeup creates a huge difference in the overall color and tone your skin. Foundations and face powders clog the pores and cause dull, blotchy, and dehydrated skin and the thicker the foundation, the worse the culprit.

Protect Animals
It’s not as popular as it used to be, but some cosmetics companies still test on animals. Take a break from makeup, take a break from supporting this act. If you don’t take a break from makeup, you can look into the many compassionate companies out there that aren’t testing on animals!

Save Money
The reality of our makeup love? It’s an expensive habit. Take a break and save some cash!

Saving Time
Lets face it, our  makeup routine takes time. We wake up sometimes an hour or more before we have to leave in the morning just to “put on our face.” Take a break from makeup, spend less time in front of the mirror and you may have time for a proper breakfast or a bit more sleep!

Paris Fashion Week — and thus, Fashion Month — has officially come to a close, which means it’s time to take a look back at all of the looks we love the most. With some of the most talented makeup artists and hairstylists in the business working with the world’s most famous designers, you know these looks will wind up being good. Below, we’ve pulled together our favorite looks from Paris Fashion Week. Take a peek at the looks you can’t miss, then tell us your favorites in the comments below!

red lips

At Andrew Gn, models wore a bright red lip and no other makeup, plus street wear chic hats and headbands that had a total cool girl vibe.
blue eyeliner

Bright blue eyeliner and loose, silky waves were the look at Elie Saab, and we’re glad that the colorful eye makeup trend continued from New York to Paris.

metallic green eyeshadow

This metallic green eye makeup at John Galliano is so pretty it practically hurts. We can’t help but think of mermaids when we look at this makeup.
ponytail cuff

Backstage at Guy Laroche, models’ ponytails were adorned with tiny metal clasps that made for the perfect dainty hair accessory with just a hint of grunge.

purple eyeshadow
Pastel purple eyeshadow was paired with graphic black liner at Julien David, and while the eye makeup was very calculated, hair was texturized and undone for a cool combination.

bold eyebrows

Bold brows were taken to a new level at Leonard, where makeup artists drew exaggerated, almost cartoon-like eyebrows on the models.

cornrows
Bold brows were taken to a new level at Leonard, where makeup artists drew exaggerated, almost cartoon-like eyebrows on the models.

green hair
At Maxime Simoens, colored hair got a new spin, with color being applied to the roots instead of the tips or lengths. Models were given an array of colors, but this hunter green was our favorite.

fake freckles
Almost every model at Vivienne Westwood had different hair and makeup, but this look was the most intriguing, because we’ve been seeing faux freckles all over the place lately. Could this be the beginning of a new trend?

Hope you pretty girls had fun reading & do let us know which of these trend you love to follow by leaving your comments below xoox

10 Household Items That Fight Acne.

tea bags

If you are coping with acne, running out of your favorite treatment is just as about as bad as PMS sans available chocolate. Maybe even worse. When in a pinch though, there are many items sitting right in your kitchen that can fight acne, naturally! Below we’ve pulled out 10 items that you can use from your own house to fix that terrible breakout – get ready for some clear skin ladies!

Aspirin
That miracle headache medicine can create other wonders. Crush one aspirin in a small bowl with just enough water (make sure it’s filtered or bottled so it’s purified) to create a paste. Spread that paste on your face or use as a spot treatment. Remember to apply moisturizer after rinsing, as Aspirin can be pretty drying to the skin, but also

to that pesky pimple.

 Honey
Raw honey is a powerful superfood in its most natural state. Rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients and live enzymes, a small dab on acne before bed is a great tool to relieve blemishes, reduce redness and soften skin.

Lemon juice
Squeeze a lemon and apply a little of the juice with a cotton swab onto your blemishes. Lemons are a good source of vitamin C and they act as an astringent and anti-inflammatory to cut down on swelling and bacteria, and dry up the infectio

 Garlic
Garlic doesn’t just fight vampires – it also can dry out those pimples! Rub the juice from a garlic clove on the areas needing treating and then rinse. Make sure to avoid your eyes!

Vitamin E
If you have popped a pimple (we’re hoping you don’t do this, but in case of emergency!), break open a capsule of vitamin E and apply the oil to the area to speed healing.

Aloe Vera
Take a piece off of an aloe plant and use the cool natural aloe to soothe inflamed blemishes and reduce swelling and redness

 Tea bags
Take a wet green tea bag and chill so it gets cool. Then apply it to your blemishes. Green tea is antiseptic and a natural anti-inflammatory, says Lewis. Relatedly, chamomile is a great gentle astringent. You can make your own chamomile astringent by taking 3-4 chamomile tea bags (or 2 handfuls of the dry plant) and brew it into a very strong tea, says Dr. Agnes Olszewski, CEO of Herborium, makers of AcnEase, a botanical acne treatment, and natural medicine specialist. When cooled, splash it on or use on a cotton pad all over your face twice a day. Keep the leftovers in the refrigerator, but use or discard in two days.

Oils:
Try massaging in a few drops of olive oil, avocado or coconut oil and wiping away with a cotton ball soaked in lukewarm water (for dry skin, you can add a few drops of rose oil or lavender – for combination and oily skin, skip the rose oil or lavender and add in some fresh drops of lemon juice), says Olszewski.

Ice:
Ice can be a girl’s best friend. Wrap an ice cube in a paper towel and press against a pimple or inflamed area to reduce swelling temporarily, says Lewis.

Oatmeal:
Mix up a cup of unflavored, unsweetened oatmeal– you want it to be pasty but not soupy, so don’t add too much water.  Add a touch of honey for extra good measure. Apply as a mask to your face and leave on for about 10 minutes before rinsing. Oatmeal is great at absorbing oils and dirt, as well as gently exfoliating your skin.

Drugstore Beauty: Tricks for Buying the Right Products Without Testing First.

Like everything else in life, there are tips and tricks to be learned – especially in mastering drugstore beauty. Unlike the Chanel makeup counter, there is no one waiting in the aisle for you with tubes and containers full of samples for you to take home. You’re on your own for this one. So how do you know which products to buy without testing them? Follow the list below of 10 tricks for buying the right beauty products and your next trip to the drugstore will be a lot easier.

1. Bring your foundation color with you. Foundation is probably the single most difficult product to buy without testing first. Every brand has a huge variety of shades to pick from and finding one that will blend in with your unique skin color is extremely tricky. If you’re set on switching brands, our best advice for you is to bring your old foundation color with you and try to match it as best as you can.

2. Dare to try a crazy lip color. The truth of the matter is, drugstore brands are not expensive. You can buy a Maybelline lipstick for $6 and in comparison to a designer brand that retails at $30, that’s nothing. Go color crazy and play with hues you adore but may have been a little shy to try. If you don’t end up liking them – no love lost.

3. Research. So many bloggers dedicate their sites to matching high end beauty products to drugstore names. Find the comparison to the brand you would like to buy and read the reviews on the cheaper product. Chances are you will find a pretty good match that will work just as well.

4. Know how your skin reacts. Always, always, always read the label before buying a beauty product! If you know you have allergies and reactions to certain chemicals or scents, be sure there are none in that bottle of foundation or moisturizer. To play it safe, find products that are hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested.

5. Stick with powder blushes. Stick, cream and gel blushes are all great but it helps to test them out first, and here you don’t have that option. Powder blushes are perfect for all skin types and you can easily monitor how much you use to make sure it doesn’t apply too darkly.

6. Look for keywords. It’s important to know your skin type. For example, if you have oily skin you want to choose a makeup that caters to oily skin. Dry skin, makeup for dry skin. Okay, you get the point.

7. Find the right lash brush. If you have short, thin lashes, a small brush with thick bristles will get close to the lashes to extend them. Need a little curl? Find a brush that’s curved and sweeps over the lashes natural orientation.

8. Color check the label. How many times have you made a quick trip to the drugstore to grab black mascara, and you get home to only realize it’s brown… Even though it only takes a second, we always forget this simple yet vital step. Point being, double check the label before you leave the store.

9. Darker bronzer isn’t always better. When looking through aisles and aisles of bronzers and you’re feeling extra pale, it’s easy to be drawn to the darkest shade. But the truth is, burnt orange skin doesn’t look cute on anyone. Go for a bronzer that’s only one or two shades darker than your natural skin tone and we promise, you’ll be glowing.

10. Love all shadows. Eyeshadows, in our opinion, are the one beauty product than can still be bought at drugstore prices and work as well as the designer brands. Our favorite way to buy eyeshadow is in a palette. Find stunning palettes full of bright colors for a fun look or maybe a palette with neutrals for a smokey eye.
